Our 5-Step Powder Coating Process

At Hawaiʻi Powder Coating, every project goes through our proven 5-step process to ensure exceptional durability, protection, and finish quality. Whether you’re restoring a well-used piece or creating something new, this method delivers long-lasting results you can trust.

  • We start with abrasive sandblasting to strip away rust, mill scale, old paint, and surface contaminants. This creates the perfect profile for coating adhesion. If needed, we use a chemical stripper beforehand to minimize blast time and preserve metal integrity.

  • Next, we apply a specialized chemical prep to clean the surface, neutralize impurities, and help prevent future corrosion. Different metals require different prep treatments—our team selects the right one to optimize the bond and longevity of your finish.

  • Once dry, the piece is ready for coating. Using an electrostatic process, we apply a dry powder that clings to the surface using a positive electrical charge. We offer a wide variety of colors and finishes—including indoor and outdoor-grade options—with additional clear coats available for added protection and style.

  • The coated piece is placed in our industrial oven and cured at temperatures between 250–400°F. This step ensures the powder melts and bonds evenly across the entire surface. Cure time varies by part size and oven load, but most projects are ready within 15–30 minutes of reaching full temperature.

  • Before anything leaves our shop, we carefully inspect each piece to ensure consistent coverage, a smooth finish, and proper curing. Only then is it ready to be installed, displayed, or put back to work.
